Hot Water & Heating
Hot Water
Solar water heating systems use “solar collectors” to capture solar energy in the form of heat. The solar heat is then transferred into a water tank, thereby heating it. There are several types of solar collectors, and several categories of solar water heating systems that utilize different approaches in heat transfer. Solar hot water systems save you money by reducing your energy consumption, typically reducing energy usage for domestic hot water by about 80%. They insulate you from the ever-rising cost of energy, make you energy independent and increasing your savings each year.
Here's how the sun can work for you:
- Solar is a proven hedge against rising Oil and Gas costs: the cost of fuels generated by solar installations is fixed for the life of the system.
- Solar is clean: it’s 100% emissions-free and 100% renewable, permitting you to reduce your share of pollution caused by fossil-fuel.
- Solar delivers high reliability with low maintenance costs. Solar systems have a design lifetime of 30 years, and with no moving parts, routine maintenance is easy.
- Aesthetic: Looks great on every building. Flexible mounting hardware allows for installation on roofs, walls and on the ground See Types of Installation.
Heating
Solar heating includes a variety of methods of heating your home by harvesting, storing, and distributing energy from the sun. Solar heating is most effective for “hydronic” heating systems, which use warm fluid (rather than hot air) for heating. Radiant floor heating, baseboards and some air-handling units can be used in hydronic heating systems; radiant floors work best with solar heating systems for several reasons.
